About the lecturer

María Clara Bernal is Associate Professor in the Department of Art History at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. She has been part of the Getty Research Institute’s research group on Surrealism in Latin America and currently leads the research group Migration and Displacement in Latin American and Caribbean Art at Universidad de los Andes. She is also Programme Chair of the International Society for the Study of Surrealism (ISSS) and a member of the Scientific Committee at the Institut d’Études Avancées in Nantes, France.
