About the lecturer

María Clara Bernal is Associate Professor in the Department of Art History at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. She has been part of the Getty Research Institute’s research group on Surrealism in Latin America and currently leads the research group Migration and Displacement in Latin American and Caribbean Art at Universidad de los Andes. She is also Programme Chair of the International Society for the Study of Surrealism (ISSS) and a member of the Scientific Committee at the Institut d’Études Avancées in Nantes, France.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes! Participants who attend all live sessions or watch all recorded sessions before 31 May 2026 will receive a certificate issued by Universidad de los Andes. To receive it, you must also agree to the university’s data-sharing policy and provide your telephone number and identification number. In addition, all participants who complete the course will receive a certificate from Amalgama.

Are there Spanish subtitles?

Yes. Although live sessions are conducted in English, recordings will include Spanish subtitles, which will be available within two weeks after each session.

Can I join the course after it starts?

Absolutely! Registration remains open until 1 May 2026, even if the course is already in progress. You’ll have access to all past sessions and materials

What if I can’t attend the live sessions?

No problem. All sessions are recorded and made available to registered participants two weeks after each session. You can watch them at your own pace.

How long will I have access to the course materials?

You’ll have access to all recordings and resources until 31 May 2026, which is also the deadline to complete the course in order to receive your certificate.

This course is designed for artists, researchers, curators, and students with an interest in Latin American art history. However, it is open to all, regardless of background or location.
